Sightings 3/7/11

BRISTOL:
Henbury: 2 Green Woodpecker and a Great Spotted Woodpecker showing well in the garden this morning (E Drewitt).

MARSHFIELD:
A 2nd calendar year Montagu's Harrier seen near Downthorn's Farm 8.50pm (M Hayes). Only 8 previous Avon records, the last one in 2008.

Other reports from the patch, 2 juvenile Buzzard, 4+ Quail (Down track) and 2 Raven (M Hayes, W King).

OLDBURY POWER STATION: per opsbirding
The juvenile Redstart present again along the track to the hide. Waders conspicuous by their absence.

SEVERNSIDE: per severnsidebirds:
Aust Warth: 2 Greenshank and at least 6 Common Sandpiper at the cake Pill section this morning. 50+ Swallows also hawking over the water.

New Passage: single Little Egret, 40 Curlew, a flyover Greenshank, 5 Redshank, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 flyover Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Kingfisher and a Coal Tit.

Other sightings: 25 Shelduck ducklings, a Red Kite over 8.30am, 3 juvenile Oystercatcher (bred here), 1 sitting Ringed Plover, 2 Dunlin, 1 Bar-tailed Godwit, 60 Curlew and a Common Sandpiper (CJ Stone).

PORTBURY WHARF:
Estuary: 120 Redshank and 2 Common Sandpiper in Chapel Pill.

Pools: a 3rd Little Grebe brood out today (3 chicks) and the Barn Owl showing well to late morning (S Hale).

EASTON-in-GORDANO:
Common Lane: at least 1 Quail heard in barley field this evening (JF Copeland).

Presumably the same bird(s) reported here also in late May.


CLEVEDON COAST:
2 Mute Swan + 5 cygnets, 18 Canada Goose, 40 Shelduck + 21 ducklings, single Cormorant, 7 Little Egret, a kestrel, 8 Oystercatcher, single Ringed Plover, 3 Lapwing, 6 Dunlin, 1 Whimbrel, only 30 Curlew (250 yesterday), 90 Redshank, 9 Common Sandpiper, 160 BH Gull, 2 Wheatear (a juvenile + adult female) and a singing Willow Warbler at Blake's Pool (HE Rose).

SAND POINT:
1 juvenile Wheatear, a Stonechat pair and a Rock Pipit (I Duncan).

LONG ASHTON:
A Green Sandpiper at Ashton Brook reservoir (S Davies).
