Sightings 1/8/11

CHIPPING SODBURY:
Common:

BRISTOL:
Purdown: singles of Lesser Whitethroat and Whitethroat near Duchess pond (L Wheatland).


SEVERNSIDE: per severnsidebirds, B Lancastle
Aust Warth: 3 Common Sandpiper in Cake Pill over the high tide. Along the seawall scrub/bushes, 3 Green Woodpecker, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Tree Pipit, 38 meadow pipit, 13 Chiffchaff and 2 Willow Warbler.

New Passage-Northwick: the female Common Scoter still hanging about, waders were 90 Dunlin, 100 Curlew, 70 Redshank, 6 Common Sandpiper and 35 Turnstone. 2 juvenile Mediterranean Gull on the warth.


PILL:
Avon foreshore: 4 juvenile Shelduck, 22 Mallard, 4 Oystercatcher, 35 Redshank, 4 Whitethroat, 5 Sedge Warbler, 10 Greenfinch, 7 Goldfinch, 2 Linnet and 2 Reed Bunting (R Hawley).

PORTBURY DOCK:

We post quite a few records of the shoreline birds so we though we'd show a landscape view of the dock too.

This is one of the wildlife corridors inside the dock boundary and the pool is where the Tufted Ducks bred this season.

The many rhines always hold good numbers of Reed and Sedge Warblers during the summer and a few Cetti's Warblers are resident throughout the year. Many thanks Chris.

This evening: 9 Oystercatcher, 32 Ringed Plover, 1 Dunlin, 18 Curlew, a Wheatear and 17 alba Wagtail (influx) (S Hale).

SAND BAY:
4 Yellow Wagtail this evening, little else of note (P Bowyer).

BLAGDON LAKE: per BL birds
The Black-necked Grebe still present (Hellfire Corner) and 11 Common Sandpiper around the lake.

CHEW VALLEY LAKE:
This evening: 11 Little Egret, 8 Little Ringed Plover, 3 Dunlin, a Black-tailed Godwit, 7 Common Sandpiper and 6 Green Sandpiper (S Davies).

Present at Herriott's/Heron's Green.
