Sightings 14/8/11

BRISTOL: K Carruthers
Bishopston: a Sparrowhawk and 2 Swift seen late afternoon.


WICK: S Loaring
Golden Valley: singles of Peregrine, Green Woodpecker, Raven, Grey Wagtail and numerous House Martin late afternoon.


OLDBURY POWER STATION: A Middleton
WeBS count today: 117 Mallard, 2 Sparrowhawk, 5 Moorhen, 2 Lapwing, single Curlew, 2 Common Sandpiper, 56 Redshank, 430 BH Gull, 3 Common Gull, 22 LBB Gull, 3 Herring Gull, 3 GBB Gull and 2 Wheatear.

TOCKINGTON: RJ White
1 Swift seen.


SEVERNSIDE: B Lancastle, V Savery, per severnsidebirds
Aust Warth: 5 Common Sandpiper

Fairly quiet so far, a female Sparrowhawk (1st cy), a Peregrine, 20 Oystercatcher, 40 Dunlin, 90 Curlew, 55 Redshank, a Common Sandpiper, single Raven, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Wheatear and 3 Yellow Wagtail.

Severn Beach: 28 Ringed Plover, 2 Sanderling and 20 Dunlin

adult this morning & a juvenile (CJS) this evening
10 Oystercatcher, 225 Ringed Plover, 190 Dunlin*, a Whimbrel, 80 Curlew, 100 Redshank and 2 Mediterranean Gull (adult+juvenile).

Many of the Dunlin on the evening tide were seen to fly up high and head off inland over the Failand ridge. Presumably, this is how Dunlin and other coastal waders appear at Chew...

CLEVEDON COAST: HE Rose, H Taffs
Wain's-Yeo Est morning: 8 Mute Swan, 7 Shelduck, 90 Mallard, 3 Grey Heron, 3 Cormorant, 14 Little Egret, singles of Buzzard and Kestrel, 22 Oystercatcher, single Little Ringed Plover, 190 Ringed Plover, 4 Knot, a Sanderling, 210 Dunlin, 1 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Whimbrel, 170 Curlew, 75 Redshank, 2 Green Sandpiper, 9 Common Sandpiper, 13 Turnstone, 450 BH Gull, 8 Herring Gull, single GBB Gull, 40 Swallow, 10 LT Tit, 2 Wheatear, 160 Goldfinch (single flock YB Farm) and 90 Linnet.

Not much change in variety or numbers from yesterday.

Yeo Est tonight: 11 Little Egret and singles of Common Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper and Kingfisher.


BARROW TANKS: S Davies
An adult and juvenile Black-necked Grebe at No.3 tank this morning, east end. (not 3 birds as we tweeted by mistake and picked up by RBA, sorry for the error).

BLAGDON LAKE: S Emery
the drake Ferruginous Duck, the female Goldeneye and the juvenile Black-necked Grebe

CHEW VALLEY LAKE: S Emery
the drake Garganey, 1 juvenile Peregrine, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Ringed Plover, 3 Ruff, a juvenile Greenshank, 3 Common Sandpiper, 5 Green Sandpiper and a Sand Martin.
