Sightings 13/8/11

 All our Mediterranean Gull reports so far this month have been from the coastal sites.


MARSHFIELD AREA: M Jackson
West Kington: a Quail at ST798768, 9 Stock Dove and 4 Raven.

Shirehill: a Marsh Tit at ST781767.


CHIPPING SODBURY: W King, A Rhodes
The Woodchat Shrike still present on the common.

Other sightings of note, a Whitethroat, 4 Willow Warbler and 3 Redstart.

OLDBURY POWER STATION: per opsbirding
Lagoon 3: a Mediterranean Gull, 880 BH Gull, 10 Common Gull and 2 GBB Gull.

Highlights on the WeBS count this morning: 12 Canada Goose, an adult Brent Goose, 56 Mallard, 7 Ringed Plover, 8 Dunlin, 4 Common Sandpiper, 750 BH Gull, an adult Mediterranean Gull, 1 adult Yellow-legged Gull, a Kingfisher, a Green Woodpecker, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 10+ Pied Wagtail, 150 Linnet and 8 Reed Bunting.

SEVERNSIDE: per severnsidebirds
Totals from the 3 main sites as follows: 3 Grey Heron, 3 Kestrel, 15 Oystercatcher, 71 Ringed Plover, 2 Sanderling, 70 Dunlin, 2 Whimbrel, 25 Curlew, 50 Redshank, 1 Green Sandpiper, 7 Common Sandpiper, 44 Turnstone, 1 Mediterranean Gull, a Wheatear, 1 Yellow Wagtail and a Redstart.

Fewer waders on the shoreline this morning, just 55 Ringed Plover of note and also 2 Wheatear on the rocks.

CLEVEDON COAST: combined reports S Sanins, H Taffs
Wain's-Yeo Est 6am-10am, shore highlights: 7 Canada Goose, 4 Shelduck, 110 Mallard, 11 Little Egret, 21 Oystercatcher, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 275 Ringed Plover, 5 Knot (1st of the autumn for Avon), 1 Sanderling, 350 Dunlin, 4 Whimbrel, 315 Curlew, 8 Common Sandpiper, 2 Green Sandpiper (Kenn Est), a flyover Wood Sandpiper 9.45am, 85 Redshank, 14 Turnstone, 450 BH Gull, 100 Swallow, 7 Wheatear, 4 Pied Wagtail, 50 Goldfinch and 150 Linnet.

Most of the waders were at the seawall at the Yeo Est.

CHEW VALLEY LAKE: J Martin
Heron's Green: 3 Barnacle Goose, 4 Green Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpiper and an immature Yellow-legged Gull.

Stratford bay: 33 Ringed Plover, 10 Dunlin, a juvenile Greenshank,1 Green Sandpiper and 4 Common Sandpiper.

Elsewhere, 4 Little Egret and 2 Common Tern.
