Sightings 13/6/11

an influx of 10 birds onto the site today

8 Snow Goose present today. The wardens have managed to obtain a feather from one of the birds so the mystery of the origin of these birds may yet be cleared up. 

We are awaiting a call from Slimbridge asking if they can borrow our stable hydrogen isotope analyser.


BRISTOL:
Blaise castle: a Dipper at the Stratford Mill stretch first thing this morning (W Earp), presumably yesterday's bird seen at the Coombe Dingle leg.

PORTBURY WHARF: in paradise today:

Estuary: 1 Shelduck brood, 20 Curlew, 3 Redshank and 2 BH Gull (1 juvenile).

Pools: 7 Mute Swan, 14 Canada Goose (+ 11 goslings from 3 broods), 4 Little Grebe, 6 Tufted Duck, 3 Oystercatcher (chick missing for several days now), 1 Redshank, 21 BH Gull (+ another juvenile), 16 LBB Gull, 48 Herring Gull and 2 GBB Gull.

Wharf Lane: the Little Owl, 4 Blackcap, 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Willow Warbler and 3 Goldcrest, most of these birds near the barns (S Hale).

CHEW VALLEY LAKE: 
A female Blue-winged Teal at Hollow brook 6.30pm (S Davies). The bird was first seen briefly yesterday by Sean, then confirmed this evening and also seen by other regulars.

Only 6 previous Avon records (all CVL), the last one in 2003.

4 Garganey also around the lake today, a pair at Moreton and drakes at Herriott's and Hollow brook.
