Sightings 11/6/11

Autumn arrived at the coast this afternoon....


BRISTOL:
Clifton:

We'll give an update on how the birds are doing after our 2nd watch session at the end of the month.


OLDBURY POWER STATION:
Stock check around the site today: 2 Mute Swan, 6 Shelduck, 21 Mallard, 6 Tufted Duck, a Kestrel, 1 Coot brood (3 juvs), 2 Moorhen, 15 Curlew, single BH Gull, 42 LBB Gull, a 2nd summer YL Gull (lagoon 3), 1 Green Woodpecker, 10 Long-tailed Tit, 2 Blue Tit, 7 Whitethroat, 2 Reed Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff, a juvenile Goldcrest, a male House Sparrow, a Greenfinch, 2 Linnet and 5 Reed Bunting (W King, per opsbirding).

SEVERNSIDE:
Severn Beach: at the orchard pools, a family of 4 Great Spotted Woodpeckers of note (per severnsidebirds).


PORTBURY DOCK:
A juvenile Black-headed Gull seen here mid-afternoon. Waders sticking it out: 9 Oystercatcher, 9 Dunlin and 20 Curlew (CJ Stone).


PORTBURY WHARF:
First thing this morning, the Barn Owl (also seen later at 3pm hunting) and Little Owl seen. On the saltmarsh, 160 Starlings. No sign of any new duck broods out yet (S Hale, A Rhodes, L Wheatland).

SAND BAY:
A Whimbrel present this morning, not much else (P Bowyer).

BLAGDON LAKE:
A Great White Egret at top end early afternoon (per BWG).

Only 3 previous Avon records, 2002, 2003 and 2006.

CHEW VALLEY LAKE:
Stratford: 3 drake Garganey.

BK hide: single Wigeon, 1 Little Egret, a Hobby, a Peregrine and 1 Yellow-legged Gull (S Davies).
